What Makes a Safari Home?

The word "camp" carries a different meaning here. A luxury tented camp is not glamping — it is a permanent canvas structure, raised on hardwood platforms, fitted with king-sized beds, en-suite bathrooms with rainfall showers, and polished teak floors. The only difference between a tent and a lodge is the wall. And that difference is everything.

You fall asleep to the sound of the bush. You wake to it. A hyena laughing. An elephant tearing bark from a tree nearby. The slow, oceanic breathing of the wilderness. At Greystoke Mahale, a traditional wooden dhow anchored offshore serves as a floating sunset lounge on Africa's oldest inland sea. Optional overnight mooring available — the stars from Lake Tanganyika defy description.

Where We Stay in the Serengeti

Migration Magic.

The Serengeti is not one place, and where you sleep in December is the wrong place to sleep in July. So we work with a handful of camps and lodges across the park and place you at whichever suits your dates, your pace, and your budget.

Siringit Migration Camp moves with the herds — south to Ndutu for the calving, north to the Mara River for the crossings — putting you as close to them as canvas allows.

Pioneer Camp holds a kopje-strewn rise in the central Serengeti, 1930s in spirit, with resident lion and leopard country on its doorstep year-round.

Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge offers larger elevated suites, private verandas and a pool above open plains — our choice for families and for space without exclusivity.

Four Seasons Safari Lodge is the softest landing of the five, built around an elephant waterhole you can watch from the infinity pool, with a spa and a longer stay in mind.

Baobab Kingdom.

Tarangire is elephant country, thick with thousand-year-old baobabs and built around a single seasonal river the herds return to each morning. We work with three properties here and match you to the one that fits your route and your budget.

Tarangire Tree Tops lifts its rooms into the canopy — one built around a living baobab — for a night spent level with the branches rather than under them.

Tarangire Sopa Lodge is the dependable, good-value option, with generous suites, a pool, and easy reach of the northern game circuit.

Swala Camp sits remote in the south-west among acacia and palm, tented and quiet, with a waterhole the elephants and lion visit unprompted.

Where We Stay in Ngorongoro

Crater Rim.

Ngorongoro divides into two decisions: sleep on the rim for the earliest possible descent, or down in the farmland of Karatu for more comfort and better value. We hold rooms in both, and place you according to your route and budget.

Ngorongoro Farm House sits on a working coffee estate outside Karatu, where much of what reaches the table is grown a short walk from it.

Farm Valley Lodge is the quiet, well-priced choice in the same farmland belt, and our usual answer for a longer northern circuit on a sensible budget.

The Plantation Lodge is the most characterful of the Karatu group — a restored estate house of gardens, antiques and unhurried dinners.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge holds a rim position on the eastern side with its own descent road, meaning you reach the crater floor ahead of most vehicles.

Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is the extravagant one, perched on the rim in gilded, glass-fronted suites that look straight down into the caldera.

Sanctuary Ngorongoro Camp keeps things tented and intimate in forest near the rim, with a fire lit and hot water bottles waiting after the cold descent.

Dinner Under the Milky Way

Tables are set in the bush — white linen, candles, and the silhouettes of acacia against a sky unpolluted by any light but starlight. The food is local, seasonal, and genuinely excellent. Conversation finds its natural depth out here. Things get said on these evenings that don't get said anywhere else.
